About Leanne

Originally from rural Wisconsin, I moved to New York City from Chicago in 2009 to attend graduate school and went on to provide psychotherapy to New Yorkers for over sixteen years. I now live in Portland, Oregon, where I continue my practice while remaining deeply connected to New York and returning regularly to work with clients there.

Previously, I worked for many years as a clinical supervisor and staff therapist in Manhattan and Brooklyn at The Center , Callen-Lorde Community Health Center , and the Ali Forney Center, as well as within the New York City and Chicago school systems. Before becoming a social worker, I held a wide range of roles in the creative, nonprofit, and service industries and continue to work creatively in addition to social work. I am licensed to provide therapy in both New York and Oregon.

Social justice is central to my practice ethos, both in my personal commitments and in my work with activists and creatives. I believe it is crucial to examine the ways structural inequalities (including racism, white supremacy, capitalism, etc.) contribute to systemic oppression, erode our sense of community, and shape our relationships, our bodies, our sense of belonging, and our understanding of mental health. I welcome conversations about power, privilege, identity, and community, and I work collaboratively with clients to explore how these forces affect lived experience.

In addition to being a psychotherapist and supervisor, I focus on my work as a comic artist, sewist, printmaker, illustrator, and painter. I utilize art and craft as my primary forms of self care and my favorite mode of creative storytelling. Beyond my artistic endeavors, I am personally passionate about relationship anarchy, intentional time with my loved ones (especially dogs), bicycling, sex workers' rights, body liberation, and climate change activism / environmental justice. I remain committed to working with and for the queer communities I love — and call home — in Portland and New York City.
